From the President's Desk:

President’s Message

It is great to welcome you all to 2018. Before we talk about what’s in store for this year, I first want to take time to reflect on 2017. We had a lot happen. We had (to name a few):

  • a great turnout of our sessions with over 70 coming to our new Laws of the Game presentation with 9 sessions in all
  • a number of our members achieved great things - Melissa Snedden was named as a FIFA Assistant Match Official (see the story at Seventeen Canadian Match Officials named to FIFA International ...), we had Ben Cameron officiate in the North American Indigenous Games and we had a number of referees upgrading, and
  • we were delighted to provide Lifetime Membership awards to both Ross Cunningham and Patty Peebles for their untiring support of you, our members. They have both been tremendous assets to our Association and there is no better way, in my opinion, then to honour their service.

In 2018, we hope to achieve even more. We have decided to split our education season into two sections. The first section will be held at Oakville Town Hall. The second section will run for six weeks and will include gym time before the education. In addition, we are going to have that second set of sessions in Burlington at the Haber Recreation Complex (at Frank J. Hayden Secondary School). Remember to keep an eye on the website while we finalize the schedule of the sessions. In addition to that, I’m happy to report that we have had five Association members (myself included) who have been certified this past weekend as District Instructors.

Education Sessions Listing

As mentioned in our previous email, our first meeting of the year will be a General Meeting. The meeting will be held on January 31st, 7:00 pm at the Oakville Town Hall. At that meeting we will:

  • Review and vote to accept the Association’s Financial Statements,
  • Vote for the role of Vice President, and
  • Vote on changes to the Constitution.
  • We hope to see you there.

Best of everything to you and your family in 2018.

Yours in soccer - George Johnson
